Well. This sucked.
It was supposed to be routine system checks in the deck 6 science labs. Testing out the containment fields was part of those checks. What was not part of those checks was Eva losing access to the controls due to said containment fields. A triple check confirmed that that particular field emitter shouldn't have activated. The console even confirmed it, yet here she was. She stared at the console, just on the other side of the faint blue hue, before groaning in exhasperation. Eva tried verbal commands, but everything was tied to the console. Even when she tried to override it with her access code, the computer insisted that it had to be manually input, and after a couple more tries the computer added on a security auth that she definitely didn't have.
M'Gann would probably be pinching her brow if she knew that this was how Eva's transfer was going.
Swallowing her pride, Eva tapped her communicator. "Drei to security... I hate to bother with something like this but I can't get the containment fields lowered in Science Lab 3 and could use some assistance. The computer is saying it needs security authorisation."
“Stand by”
It took Jeksyne a few minutes to make his way down to the science labs. He moved slowly, checking every corner, under every table, like he was scanning for hostiles and intruders before he stopped in front of the containment fields.
“You said it kicked in on its own?” the large man asked the science officer behind the field.
The wait was just long enough for Eva to more or less reconcile with the embarrassment by the time the security officer showed up. Her eyes widened slightly when she took in his frame, her thoughts sitting somewhere between impressed and a little intimidated. "That's right," she responded, pointing to the console where she had been working. "I was testing the emitters, and the console confirmed that 29A wouldn't activate, but here we are." To emphasise the point, she flicked the offending field, which buzzed in response.
"Do you have authorization to work in this area? These fields are programmed to kick in if it detects unauthorized personnel in redistricted areas." Jeksyne inquired.
"I'm the science chief, I sure hope I have authorisation to be here," Eva replied in an attempt to lighten the mood.
“Probably a memory checksum error.” Jeksyne postulated as he deactivated the field, the hum silencing as it came offline.
Despite the lack of hum, Eva still tested with her hand before stepping away from where she had been standing. "A life-saver," she said with an appreciative smile. "A memory checksum? As in, it forgot that the emitter was supposed to be off?"
"More like forgetting you have clearance. I'll have engineering run a diagnostic on the computer core." Jeksyne elaborated further as the force field turned off.
"I'll run by Ops too to make sure nothing's weird with my clearance," Eva nodded. "Thanks for your help, Lieutenant..."
Jeksyne nodded. "If you need anything else, my comm is always open"
